LET THERE BE PEACE!

On Tuesday, June 12, 2012,  SPACES FOR CHANGE will formally release the findings of its latest research study, 'DEMOLISHING HOMES; DEMOLISHING FOUNDATIONS OF PEACE". The study documented the systematic pattern of the forced evictions and demolitions in Nigeria perpetrated by both city planners and security forces in the name of “improving national security”. Furthermore, it critically examined the effectiveness of using house demolitions as a strategy for deterring terrorism in Northern Nigeria.

Recognizing that faith-based approaches to peacemaking can be invaluable in promoting understanding and reconciliation, the event will be preceded by a roundtable themed, "Religion and Democracy: In Search of a Healthy Balance". The roundtable will present an unprecedented opportunity for Christian and Muslim leaders, local and international researchers, city planners, media experts, human rights leaders, representatives of northern youth movements and communities to engage in an inter-faith dialogue to identify key challenges associated with peacemaking and explore ways that citizens, faith leaders and the youth can be effective in third-party engagement.

The venue is at the LDS Conference Room, No 21 Adebayo Mokuolu street, Ogba (Oke-Ira bus stop) Ikeja, Lagos, (behind the shops that are opposite Area G police command, Lagos). Time is 9 a.m.

We look forward to welcoming you at the event.

Signed
